I am the oldest of four boys. Both my wife and I grew up in Spokane, Washington. I graduated from Ferris High School in 1977, Spokane Community College in 1979, and Western Washington University in 1981. In July 1997 I celebrated with my high school class our twentieth reunion. It was a blast.
Born in Waco, Texas, I moved to Rapid City, South Dakota at the age of 6 months. With our family roots being in Spokane, that is where we ended up 2 and a half years later. Our first home was in North Spokane near Shadle Park. At the age of fourteen we moved to the South Hill.
I concider myself a product of the South Hill of Spokane. I grew up in a large house on Brown's Mountain which is just in front of Tower Mountain. (That is where all the T.V. antena's are.) I am a two time GSL (Great Spokane League) mile champion; with the honor of being the state's fastest miler in 1976 running 4.17.1 and 1977 in 4.15.2. I was also the national age group mile champion in 1975 with a time of 4.24.3. I posted a 3 mile time in 14:28.2 in 1977. At Spokane Community College I ran the 1,500 in 3.53.2, 3,000 in 8.18.2, 5,000 in 14.30, and 4 miles (Cross Country) in 19.21.
Cindy and I met at Spokane Community College. We were married during the fall of 1979. After a short stay in Spokane we moved to Bellingham to finish our education. With the boycott of the 1980 Olympic's my competitve running came to a halt.
Today I enjoy running road races around the northwest. I'm still pretty fast placing in my age group within the top three almost every race. In Bloomsday (one of the largest road races in American) I've finished in the top 300 runners my last three Bloomsday races. That's pretty good considering in May 1996 there were over 60,000 runners from around the world.
I'm a dad, teacher, and coach. I've coached four State Champions since 1988 in track. In cross country my teams have competed in the State Meet every year since 1988
My hobbies include using the computer, running, and photography.
