Question: How are award points calculated?

Answer: Award points are calculated once all the standings for the year - end are tabulated.
Qualifing members are given Award Points the final positions in the respective classes.
 in Open Barrels a maximum of 13 points are given for second place down to 1/2 point for fifteenth place.
Saddle winners do not get points. (If a saddle winner wants to give up the saddle to the 2nd place winner, then the 2nd place winner will give the Champion their points. 
(You do not get a saddle and points.)  Award points given to Youth and Senior follow the same format but are 1/2 value. 10 places receive award points in Youth and Senior.
1/2 point is given to places in poles (10 places in poles are awarded)

Question: I placed in more than 1 division how come I did not get more award points?

Answer: If you paid 1 award fee than you received your points in the highest placing in the highest division
example: you placed 1st in 3D and 3rd in 2D. Your highest points were in the 3D so you received those points the points in the 2D went to the next member in the 2D. If you paid 2 award fees and rode 2 horses all year then you would receive both placings. 

Question:  How much is an award point worth?

Answer: Award points vary year to year by how much is in the bank at the end of the running season. This year award point are worth $23/point. 

PBHA works with different suppliers to get discounts on items in our awards list. Your award points in most cases will go a lot further than if you were to purchase the products yourself. 

Question:  Why are Poles only 1/2 points?

Answer: We are a barrel racing association, Poles is offered as a optional class. We  have fewer riders and a lower entry fee so less money is earned for the poles. We believe Poles class should support itself and not be subsidised by Open barrels. 

Question:  Where does the money come from?

Answer: Your $20 award fee, $2 is assessed on each run for awards,  office fees after expenses, time run fees, Membership fees, and from Fund raising events like the Summer Sizzler and the Harbor Fall Classic.
We also have generated extra funds from other races we produce in the winter.
Remember, PBHA is non-profit. We keep expenses to a minumum, we use volunteer help at races, all money after expenses gos to year-end awards!

Question:  How do I get Bonus Points?

Answer: Bonus points are awarded when you sign-up and work at fund raising event. You must work the whole event to get bonus points. These points are your award for your hard work, They will not be given to slackers!  Those members that are giving up their time that may be spent warming up their horse or visiting with others are rewarded with these bonus points.

We will be giving bonus points for next year at the Harbor Fall Classic so if you are interested contact Mitzi or George and sign up to work. 

Question:  If I did not get award points do I still need to attend the banquet?

Answer: If you had some hard luck this year and did not get any award points, please still come to the banquet. there will be other awards given out and a raffle or auction to support next year. we will also have some hard luck awards and other prizes for everyone. It will be great fun.
